IEI Construction chosen for next part of Altoona dam project

Eau Claire County (WQOW)- Repairs on the Altoona Dam are swimming along, but with a much smaller price tag.

The Eau Claire County Board voted unanimously on Tuesday in favor of choosing IEI Construction for the next phase of the Altoona Dam repairs.  The group's bid came in at $51,000.  Of the four other contractors the county was considering, the next lowest bid was $169,000.

County Board member Colleen Bates spoke in favor of continuing the project, and doing so with IEI Construction.

"This is not for structural issues.  This is strictly for service repair, so it isn't as though we're talking about something that requires a great deal of equipment and such to come in," said Bates.

The county board said that IEI had great reviews from some of the competing contractors, and that one of their employees already has experience working on the Altoona Dam. IEI plans to begin work in February.
