City of Altoona announces new service available to residents

Since April 2021, the City of Altoona has offered a seasonal green waste disposal site for Altoona residents. Starting April 2025, the City has expanded the site to offer residents a place to deposit metal for recycling.

This site is an environmentally friendly solution offering Altoona residents a place to dispose of brush, leaves, grass clippings, logs and metal.

Season

  • 2025 Season Opening is Wednesday, April 16
  • Hours of Operation
    • Weekly: Wednesday from 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
    • Monthly: third Saturday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Who can use the Green Waste Disposal + Metal Recycling Facility?

  • This facility is available to Altoona residents only and requires proof of residency to enter.
  • Only materials from residential properties within the city limits will be accepted.
  • NO COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

  • 800 block of Garfield Avenue
  • Directions: the facility is located on the north side of Garfield Avenue

Acceptable Items

Wood chips are available for pick-up at no charge. Hand load only, no machines. Not for commercial use.
