annual festival will feature food trucks, family activities, live music, and art

ACTIVITIES GALORE. The River Prairie Festival will return with a special Mother's Day activity, food trucks, live music, and more on May 11.

One of Altoona's largest community events is coming back swingin' this year - this time on Mother's Day weekend. On Saturday, May 11 (with a rain date set for May 12), River Prairie Park will be filled with food, music, and plenty of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

In the morning, Yoga in the Park by The Yoga Room and the Birding Walk, with local birding expert Will Taylor, will kick off the event. The artists' market will be held from 10-4pm, showcasing a host of local art vendors. Kids activities include a robotics demonstration by the Leviathan Robotics Competition team, the Pablo Center's ARTmobile team, rubber ducky races, a scavenger hunt, face painting, and glitter tattoos. Local food trucks - Bubbles BBQ, Beez Neez Cheesecakes & Sweets, Little Red Grilled Cheese, Richard & Co. Donuts, and Tasty Trolley - will be available from 10-4pm for some grub on the go too.

Live musical performances will be played in the park's amphitheater by Home Grown Tomatoes and the Cover Song Competition will be going on all day (you can register online to sing!). Not in the mood to sing but still want to compete in something? A cribbage tournament from noon-2pm will be just the thing for you with registrations on-site or online.

Spending the day with your mother or parental figure? Sponsored by Down to Earth Garden Center, there will be a special Mother's Day Potting and Planting activity, while supplies last. They will also be holding a Giant Pumpkin Plant Giveaway and Beginner Class, adding to the large list of activities.
